Pedro Márquez

Advisor

In 2015, Pedro Márquez was appointed Vice-president, Global Advancement, Marketing and Business Development for Royal Roads University after serving one year as acting vice-president. Prior to his current appointment, Márquez held the position of dean of the Faculty Management since joining Royal Roads in 2007.

He is a professor of strategic management and international business, with a special emphasis on business ethics and small- to medium-sized enterprises. He has co-authored book chapters and journal articles on the North America Free Trade Agreement, focusing on ideas around founder centrality, comparative attitudes towards business ethical dilemmas and teaching entrepreneurship. His research is focused on corporate accountability, Latin American politics and business, Mexico’s business environment and NAFTA.

Prior to Royal Roads, Márquez was the dean and department head at the Tecnológico de Monterrey at Mexico City business school. He also managed a custom-designed executive education program for CEMEX, one of North America’s largest cement producers founded in Mexico, delivered upon a partnership between Tecnológico de Monterrey, Stanford University and INSEAD. Marquez earned the equivalent of a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de Mexico (ITAM) in Mexico City. He also holds a Master of Arts in Political Science (Comparative Politics) and a PhD in Management and Political Science from the University of Calgary.

Salvador Trevino

Board Member

Born in the Northern City of Monterrey, in Mexico, he is an adjunct professor, academic administrator, and entrepreneurship mentor at Tecnologico de Monterrey´s (ITESM) EGADE Business School. Prof. Trevino’s academic interests are centered on the notions of Marketing and Business Strategy and their relations with major business forces such as innovation, technology, and the social impact of these areas in individual and collective behaviours. Educated in Mexico and the USA, he has a PhD in Business Administration from The University of Memphis. Papers derived from his dissertation work have earned awards in Mexican and American academic venues.

Prof Trevino has lectured in several Latin-American countries, France, the USA and Canada. A visiting professor at Royal Roads University from August 2010 to July 2012, He delivered courses in the areas of Marketing, Strategy and Entrepreneurship. During the same period, he actively participated in curriculum design activities, and produced two academic publications. Upon his return to Mexico, Dr. Trevino was appointed National Director for Alumni Relations a position that he combined with his teaching and entrepreneurship activities.

Juan Salvador Navarro Estrada

Juan es un emprendedor social, con amplia experiencia en creación, desarrollo y administración de empresas con un enfoque global, evaluación de proyectos, finanzas corporativas y economía regional. Dentro de su experiencia profesional, se desempeñó como economista del Banco de México durante 10 años realizando investigación económica regional, estudiando la dinámica de distintas entidades de México. Asimismo, ha sido catedrático en las escuelas de negocios del Tec de Monterrey y de la Universidad Panamericana a nivel licenciatura y de posgrados en temas de Administración Financiera, Estructura Financiera de Capital, Proyectos de Inversión, Matemáticas Financieras, así como planeación y desarrollo de nuevos negocios. Actualmente dirige su propia empresa donde promueve relaciones de negocios y de colaboración entre instituciones de México y Canadá, su empresa cuenta con la representación de diversas instituciones de Educación dentro de la provincia de British Columbia (BC) para México donde promueve la movilidad académica convencido de la importancia de la educación en un contexto internacional. Asimismo, tiene una empresa exportadora e importadora a través de la cual distribuye productos auténticamente mexicanos de los cuales tienen su representación para el mercado de Canadá.

Por otro lado, Juan ha realizado colaboraciones para medios de comunicación impresos y digitales, destacando dentro de ellos, los periódicos El Financiero, La Razón, CNN-Expansión, y las Revistas Mejores Prácticas y Ejecutivos en Finanzas; los temas sobre los cuales ha escrito son responsabilidad social, ética en los negocios, Finanzas, emprendimiento social, análisis económico y tratados internacionales; además ha sido conferencista sobre estos temas en diversos foros. Dentro de su participación en organizaciones profesionales y sin fines de lucro, ha sido socio del Instituto Mexicano de Ejecutivos en Finanzas (IMEF) donde se desempeñó en diversas responsabilidades, destacando ser presidente del comité de Ética y Responsabilidad Social del grupo Guadalajara y presidente del Consejo Técnico. Actualmente es socio del “Canadian International Council” (CIC) e integrante de diversos grupos de emprendedores en British Columbia. Durante 2012-2013 fue integrante del Consejo Consultivo de la Licenciatura de Administración y Finanzas de la UP junto con destacados líderes del sector financiero de la región. Además tuvo la oportunidad en 2003 de fungir como presidente de la Asociación Exatec Jalisco donde llevó a cabo diversas actividades de trascendencia, destacando la organización de la Convención Nacional “Impulsando a México”.

Algunos reconocimientos que ha recibido son, en 2008 ganó el premio “Alma Mater” que otorga la rectoría del Tec de Monterrey por realizar proyectos de trascendencia social en la categoría de “Nueva iniciativa en Filantropía”. En 2007, fue nominado al premio nacional de la juventud, propuesta impulsada por diversos organismos del sector público y privado del estado de Jalisco por su compromiso social. En 2004, recibió el reconocimiento por su excelencia como docente en el Tec de Monterrey. Juan cuenta con dos Maestrías, una en Finanzas por el Tec de Monterrey y otra en Global Management de Royal Roads University. Cuenta con la licenciatura en Administración de Empresas por el Tec de Monterrey, así como con dos diplomados, uno en ciencias económicas por la Universidad de Guadalajara (UdG) y otro en Finanzas Publicas por el Instituto del Banco Mundial en conjunto con el Tec. Ha participado en diversos talleres de emprendimiento y administración de proyectos en Mitacs, organización canadiense, líder en investigación y capacitación, así como en talleres impartidos por el Instituto de Administración del Conocimiento de Canadá.

Juan Angel Becerra Cantú

Juan graduated as a Chartered Accountant in Mexico in 1988. He earned an Adv. LL.M. on International Tax Law from Leiden University, The Netherlands in 2002, and a Masters on Mexican Tax Law from a well known private institute in Mexico in 1993. Juan is  a certified public accountant and a certified tax specialist from the Mexico City’s Public Accountants Association.

Juan has more than  24 years of experience in the provision of tax advice to multinational companies and high-net-worth individuals regarding tax treaty interpretation, cross-border M&A,  and  cross-border financial transactions. Since January 2006 to date, Juan has been an independent consultant; an independent member of the Board of Directors of a life insurance company and other 5 Tech companies in Mexico; off-counsel to accounting and law firms in Mexico on international taxation; and author of several publications, including the book “Interpretation and Application of Tax Treaties in North America” IBFD, Amsterdam (2007) and its Second Revised Edition (2013);

Juan has been a frequent speaker in International Tax Seminars in Mexico, the United States, Europe (while working with KPMG) and most recently in Canada for the Canada Revenue Agency and in Mexico for the Tax Administration Service. As well, he has been a frequent guest commentator at a prestigious business program on CNN Español from the New York Stock Exchange.
